You either have to accept the slowness or be connected to the network you need most at the time. If you are intending to be connected to work via one VPN and stream content from a blocked Geo-location via Nord at the same time, for example, multitasking, this isn't really what it was designed for. If you are already using NordVPN, then connecting to your work VPN you are making traffic heavy by doubling the VPN and encryption on those links, if you connect to work you should not use Nord at the same time unless you are out of the country and your company block foreign IPs. A DNS problem and/or A routing problem and/or A problem with the VPN server Tunnelblick includes the ability to diagnose some DNS problems and will warn you about some common configuration problems. After connecting, if you cant reach the Internet, its likely that your setup has. I often have to use a web browser as well for general tasks and this is what is slow. If OpenVPN is connected to the server but you cant access the Internet. The other situation where I am hoping to remedy is when I connect to my work network through VPN and RDP. Why not, what error do you get? A VPN shouldn't change anything local. When I use Nord VPN to get around geo locked content, I am not able to access certain local sites (local to me) during that time. Most clients are using OSX Sierra and a recent version of Tunnelblick. OSX was Yosemite, but client has since upgraded to Sierra and it did not change anything. Unfortunately, our Cisco anyconnect doesn't allow connections from a vm so I had to give up on that plan. As said in the subject, Tunnelblick can connect, but the bandwidth is awful (regular tcp connection to the same server without the VPN is about 1 MB/s). I tried setting up a Win10 vm in Hyper-V and having the virtual switch use the specific interface hoping this would help. I was hoping to be able to route this traffic through a specific port and leave the rest to go through the other port.

This is not as big of a deal because I can access them once I disconnect, it is just a pain to have to wait sometimes. I recently started using OpenVPN and enjoying the various options it provides, including masking VPN traffic under TCP:443 (otherwise known as HTTPS).
Good point, I guess what I want to do wasn't as simple as I thought. I've added 'redirect-gateway def1' to ovpn client file. But, from the ios device to LAN, there is no traffic pass except to dns servers. I also see dns and ping traffic to the dns servers. If you want web browsing to go via a different link, what would be the purpose of the VPN? Now, when IOS device connects to the Mikrotik like before, I can ping the IOS device from LAN. When I connect to VPN my web browsing speeds slows down a bit
